Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
